How the Early Years Skills Bootcamp course helped Elidelma grow her confidence and career
Elidelma always loved working with children. After spending eight years as a Mealtime Supervisor at a nursery in Surrey, she knew she wanted to do more in early years, but wasn’t sure how to take the next step. That changed when her managers suggested the Early Years Skills Bootcamp, a government funded course designed to help people build their skills and move forward in their childcare careers.
Finding her passion in the nursery
When Elidelma first started in early years, she didn’t expect a mealtime role to lead to a full-blown career. But the more time she spent with the children, the more she loved it.
“Helping children try new foods and seeing their confidence grow made me want to be part of more moments like that,” she says.
That hands-on experience sparked a real interest in child development. She knew she wanted to keep going and the Skills Bootcamp was the perfect next step. Upon completing the course, Elidelma was able to begin her Level 3 Apprenticeship and she is now a Nursery Assistant in a new setting.
Learning that made a difference
For Elidelma, every Skills Bootcamp session felt like a lightbulb moment.
“Every lesson was a discovery. The coaches made it all so interesting. Learning the theory behind what I was already doing, it was priceless.”
Before the course, Elidelma sometimes felt unsure in her role. Now, with a Level 3 qualification under her belt, she feels much more confident.
“If I hadn’t done the course, I wouldn’t feel confident or qualified enough to support the children the way I can now.”
Moving forward with confidence
Since completing the course, Elidelma feels more prepared and empowered at work. She’s using what she learned to support her team, try new approaches, and help the children in her care thrive.
The course didn’t just give her a qualification, it gave her the confidence to believe in herself and her future in early years.
