🎓 Course: Level 3 Learning and Development Practitioner
Background: Employed but with no formal L&D training
Result: Career progression, renewed confidence, enhanced job satisfaction

Background

Jayne’s career has been anything but linear - spanning roles in merchandising, team leadership across the leisure, retail, and banking sectors, and a period of self-employment. After taking time away from work to raise her twin daughters, she returned to the workforce as a Customer Service Advisor at Riverside - one of the UK’s largest housing association groups.

Since joining Riverside, Jayne has progressed to the role of Training Executive, where she delivers workshops and induction training to new starters entering the business. But without any formal qualifications in Learning & Development, she began to feel that she could benefit from some structured training herself.

The Decision to Enrol

Jayne admits she was unsure about returning to training herself, particularly after time away from formal education. But the potential benefits were hard to ignore.

“I realised that an apprenticeship could provide the structured learning I needed. The chance to gain confidence, acquire new skills, and advance my career was very compelling. I wanted to formalise my knowledge and improve my professional capabilities.”

Course Experience

Jayne found the course exceeded her expectations at every turn.

“The assignments provided so much clarity and validated the way I was already working. There was a moment when it just clicked and I realised I was already doing many things well. I especially valued the networking opportunities through doing this apprenticeship. It was enlightening to connect with peers from different industries and pick up new ideas and practical tips.”

Impact on Her Role

Completing the apprenticeship transformed Jayne’s approach to learning delivery and development.

“I now understand the full Training Cycle, which means I can design and deliver more effective workshops and inductions. The skills I’ve gained have boosted my confidence and job satisfaction. I’m now able to contribute more meaningfully to Riverside’s Learning & Development initiatives.”

Support and Guidance

Jayne was initially unsure about balancing study with full-time work but the support she received quickly put her at ease.

“Nicki Williams, my assessor, was fantastic. Her guidance, resources, and encouragement were instrumental in my success. I never felt alone as Nicki was always there when I needed help or advice.”

Conclusion

Jayne reflects on the lasting value of the experience:

“This course has given me the tools to excel in my role and reignited my passion for Learning & Development. Before this course, I saw myself as someone just ‘doing the job.’ Now, I see myself as a professional in L&D. I feel well equipped to confidently support Riverside’s training objectives and I’m excited for the future.”
