How online learning and a dedicated tutor helped a health care assistant take the next step in her nursing career.
Ebony Pearson works at The Bradford Royal Infirmary as a Health Care Assistant in the Nursing department. With a passion for advancing her career and becoming a Nurse Associate, Ebony knew that achieving her Level 2 Maths qualification was a vital step.
The challenge
Maths had always been a subject Ebony found daunting. The very thought of tackling numbers again was overwhelming, and like many adult learners, she carried the weight of past struggles and doubts. Balancing work in a high-pressure healthcare environment made the idea of studying even more intimidating.
The solution
What changed everything for Ebony was enrolling in our online Level 2 Maths course. “I felt absolutely fine knowing I could do it all online, it made me feel at ease,” she shared. The flexibility of the course allowed her to learn at her own pace while continuing to work at the hospital.
One key figure in her course was her tutor, Shamalia. “She listened to me, she made me understand everything in a way I would be able to take into the exam room. She never gave up on me, even when I was having a hard day. She kept on encouraging me.”
The transformation
With Shamalia’s unwavering support, Ebony began to see Maths in a new light. What was once a fear turned into a goal she was determined to conquer. “She made everything so much easier. Any problems, I knew she was there. She pushed me and made me realise that I could do this exam.”
Ebony passed her Level 2 Maths exam, a milestone she never thought she could reach. “I have never been able to do Maths; I’ve always hated the thought of it. But this time around, it was different. I thank her with all my heart for what she has done to help me.”
Looking forward
Now, with her qualification in hand, Ebony is focused on progressing toward her goal of becoming a Nurse Associate. “I can now focus on my nursing since doing this course,” she said with pride and relief.
She describes Realise as “a professional place with a lot of experience, very kind and helpful team,” and considers Shamalia “a blessing” and “an asset to Realise.”
Ebony story is a reminder that with the right support and a learning environment that fits your life, even the biggest challenges can be overcome.
