Lindsay Cowen wanted to make a change in her career to find a role with better hours that suited her responsibilities as a parent. After years of working in retail, she sought a new direction that would offer stability and opportunities for growth. Realise provided the support and training she needed to achieve her goals.

Background

Lindsay has had a diverse career path since leaving school. She started by completing General National Vocational Qualifications (GNVQs) in Tourism and, later, Hospitality. After a brief time working as Cabin Crew, Lindsay found herself working in Retail before embarking on a Level 2 Functional Skills Maths course with Realise.

Discovering Realise

Lindsay found out about Realise through C+K Careers in Huddersfield, a career guidance company. She was drawn to the course because she wanted to explore new opportunities and expand her qualifications.

Starting the course

On her first day of learning, she felt a bit anxious about what to expect. However, her worries quickly eased thanks to the supportive environment provided by her tutors and the engaging course structure.

Highlights of the training

Lindsay particularly enjoyed the sessions led by tutor, Bev, as well as the webinars. These sessions were both informative and engaging, making the learning process enjoyable. “Bev is a lovely lady who is enthusiastic about her job. She was very clear and concise with her training, and I understood what she taught me. Bev has a very good knowledge of Maths. I really enjoyed her tutoring sessions.”

Impact of the course

Completing the Level 2 Functional Skills Maths course has been a significant milestone for Lindsay. It has boosted her confidence in Maths and provided her with a recognised qualification. “The training materials and webinars alongside Bev, my tutor, have been invaluable, and I have more confidence with Maths now,” Lindsay shared. More importantly, it has opened doors to new career opportunities beyond retail, enabling her to work more suitable hours for her son.
