New horizons for Linda: From Skills Bootcamp to paid apprenticeship

Topics

Linda completed a 6-week Skills Bootcamp with Realise and has since landed a job with a local nursery! Now Linda has set her sights on completing an accelerated Level 3 apprenticeship.

Opening doors with online learning:

Linda Acosta from Bedford was unemployed and seeking a career working with young children. Living in a rural village in Bedfordshire meant that Linda felt opportunities for funded skills development were rarely available in her local area.

Finding the online Skills Bootcamp with Realise meant that Linda could access expert training at her fingertips. Upon joining the online Skills Bootcamp with Realise, Linda felt privileged to meet peers in her learning group from all over England – including Birmingham, Devon and London.

With learners attending from all different ages and cultural backgrounds, Linda found an enriching learning community for the next 6 weeks!

“When well-organised, an online offering is a valuable resource for accelerated learning.”

A constant source of happiness:

When enrolling on the Skills Bootcamp, learners can choose between morning, afternoon or evening study sessions, allowing learning to fit around busy schedules.

Every morning, Linda would log on to begin her studies – something that she found deeply rewarding.

With the encouragement of her peers, Linda grew in confidence and gradually found her feet as an aspiring early years educator.

“I can say that it has been a constant source of happiness, in a deep sense, with a feeling of responsibility and being inspired to contribute professionally to the development, well-being, and safeguarding of our children.”

Confidence building:

So many Skills Bootcamps learners cite confidence as something they wish to improve on whilst enrolled on the programme – including Linda.

Having admitted that she had limited her horizons in the past with poor self-confidence, the Skills Bootcamp enabled Linda to re-emerge with a replenished sense of self and boundless enthusiasm for pursuing a career in early years.

“Despite facing the challenges of having English as an additional language, Linda always made a commendable effort to participate in group discussions, showcasing her determination and commitment to her learning.”

Linda told Realise that she could feel the passion from her trainers and that it had rubbed off onto her!

“My enthusiasm is part of the passion shared by my trainers, especially Daljit and Ian. Each trainer has given their best in their respective areas, and I greatly appreciate the team’s support, who have already placed their trust in me.” – Linda Acosta

“Linda truly embraced the Early Years Skills Bootcamp, demonstrating remarkable dedication and enthusiasm throughout the course. She consistently worked hard to complete all assigned tasks and used her strong passion for working in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to enrich our discussions.” – Daljit Chana, Realise Trainer

Empowered by creativity:

With previous experience in sociology, Linda was amazed at how the Skills Bootcamp helped her shape new understandings around early years activities and educational play.

Linda told us:

“I am a sociologist and believe me, I had never imagined so many wonderful activities, like creating an educational toy using statistics for early years.”

Exploring new ways of thinking boosted Linda’s confidence and encouraged her to recognise her strengths and discover new interests.

“My confidence is now built on creativity and new avenues of study as I recognise new opportunities for self-development.”

Just the beginning:

Since completing the Skills Bootcamp and receiving dedicated career coaching with Realise, Linda secured a paid role at Marston Day Nursery! Here, Linda will complete an accelerated Level 3 apprenticeship – saving 6 months of study time.
