About the course
Emergency Paediatric First AidWould you know what to do in those first vital minutes?
A baby chokes at nursery. A toddler stops breathing after a fall. A child goes quiet and pale, and no one's quite sure why. In moments like these, it's not luck that keeps a child safe - it's someone nearby who knows exactly what to do and has the confidence to do it.
This 6-hour, face-to-face Emergency Paediatric First Aid course is built to get you to that point. You'll leave with the essential knowledge and practical skills to recognise when a baby or child needs urgent help, and how to respond safely, calmly and effectively - whether that's in a nursery, a classroom, a childminding setting, or your own home.
Why join this course?
Across the day, you'll explore:
- The role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider
- How to assess an emergency and respond safely
- Recognising when a baby or child is unwell, injured or in need of urgent first aid
- How to respond to life-threatening emergencies
- CPR and what to do when a casualty is not breathing
- How to place babies and children in the recovery position
- How to recognise and respond to choking
- Appropriate first aid responses to common childhood injuries and illnesses
- When and how to seek further medical assistance
Assessment
You'll put your skills into practice, not just read about them. Practical assessment will ask you to demonstrate the three core hands-on skills from the day, plus a knowledge check covering the key paediatric first aid principles above.
