About the course

Introduction into Schools

Ever thought about what goes on behind the scenes to help a classroom run smoothly? Or wondered what it takes to support a child through those small, everyday breakthroughs, from reading their first word to solving a tricky sum or having the confidence to put their hand up? Our Introduction into Schools course is where you can find out.

This free, four-hour taster session is designed for anyone curious about working in a school but not sure where to start. You'll get a real feel for life in a school setting, learn about the roles available, and have the chance to ask questions.

Whether you're considering a career change, thinking about returning to work, or just want to explore your options, this is a relaxed, welcoming way in.

Why do this course?

Working in a school is about more than the day job; it's about being part of a child's journey. This course helps you explore:

  • The career opportunities within a school setting, from classroom support to pastoral roles.
  • The rewarding impact of supporting children and young people to learn and grow.
  • The vital role school staff play in education, every single day.
  • The Teaching Assistant role and other school-based roles you might not have considered.
  • What classroom practice, safeguarding and behaviour support actually looks like in practice.
  • Your first step towards a career in education.

What you'll learn

During the session, you'll cover the essentials of what it looks like to work in a school environment, including:

  • The different roles available within a school setting.
  • The responsibilities of Teaching Assistants and other school staff.
  • The important role school staff play in supporting learning and development.
  • How schools support children's educational progress and wellbeing.
  • The importance of safeguarding.
  • Whether a career in a school environment feels like the right fit for you.

You'll leave with a much clearer picture of what school life is like from the staff side of the desk, and whether it's somewhere you can see yourself.

Who is this course for?

This course is open to:

  • Anyone interested in starting a career in a school setting.
  • People with no formal qualifications required. This is your starting point, not a barrier.
  • Adults aged 19+ living in Lincolnshire, subject to Adult Skills Fund eligibility criteria.

If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
