About the course
The Level 3 Understanding Autism course is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of autism, its characteristics, and effective strategies for supporting individuals across a range of settings. The course builds advanced knowledge to help you confidently respond to individual needs and promote positive outcomes.


Throughout the course, you will explore key topics including safeguarding concerns, person-centred approaches, communication strategies, and the legislation and support systems that protect individuals with autism and their families. The course also provides practical insights into managing behaviour, supporting positive behaviour, and helping individuals cope with life changes.

By the end of the course, you will have developed the skills and confidence to assess needs, provide effective support, and advocate for individuals with autism. The knowledge gained can be applied in real-world situations, ensuring best practice and helping to enhance quality of life.


Is this course right for you?
This course is ideal if you work with, or plan to work with, individuals with autism in education, care, health, or community settings. It is well-suited to individuals who already have some understanding of autism and want to develop more advanced knowledge and practical skills to support individuals effectively.

Eligibility criteria
You must be a South Yorkshire resident, aged 19 or over on 31 August 2025, be ordinarily resident in the UK, and have the right to live and work in the UK.

If you are aged 19-23:

  • You must be studying your first full Level 3 qualification, or
  • If this is not your first full Level 3, you may still be eligible if you are unemployed or earning less than £34,977.43 per year.


If you are aged 24 or over:

  • You must be unemployed or earning less than £34,977.43 per year to be eligible.

  • Autism and behaviour
  • Living with autism in society
