About the course
Our blended learning programme will build your confidence, skills, knowledge and behaviours required to be a successful teaching assistant.
You’ll be working under the close supervision of a teacher, supporting and helping children and young people to learn. One of our specialist trainers will help you every step of the way to learn and progress ready for end point assessment.
Our programme has been specifically designed around the academic year with correlating activities for the 39 weeks of the school terms.
Throughout the apprenticeship you’ll receive a rich and wide range of learning opportunities to get the appropriate knowledge, skills and behaviours so that you’re able to successfully complete the programme and progress in your career.
We have worked with schools and employers for the last 30 years so we understand how to deliver training for the education sector.
All applicants will be required to undertake a DBS check with their employer as part of our safe recruitment process.

Additionally, our programme is suitable for anyone working in a classroom, support environment or looking to work in the sector. As a teaching assistant you’ll play an active role supporting individuals to access the curriculum and develop new skills.
You’ll be promoting self-belief, social inclusion and high self-esteem to improve well-being in pupils so that they learn in a positive, nurturing, safe environment.
Our flexible and blended approach to training means that activities can be scheduled around needs. All learning is on a 1:to:1 basis.
What you’ll learn
During your apprenticeship training you’ll support the class teacher to enhance pupils learning experience through planning and development activities. Teaching assistants in training will also play an active role supporting students on a one to one basis, promoting self belief and ensuring pupils thrive in the school setting. An assistant teacher plays an active role in improved pupil progress development.
We’ll help you gain a strong understanding of what it takes to deliver a quality learning experience, ensure you know what it takes to support the development of children and young people and ensure you have the skills to review and assess the progression of individuals.

How you’ll learn
All learning for the programme is delivered as a 1-2-1 session. We have designed a blended programme which includes:
- 1-2-1 sessions (including an induction)
- Remote sessions and support assignments
- Ongoing mentoring, coaching and support
- Specialist English/maths support (if needed)
- Level 2 Safeguarding Certificate
- End point assessment preparation and support, including Gateway Readiness Check and mock tests

I am a Childcare Trainer with over 22 years experience in Childcare. I have had varied roles and experience including; working in a school, private day nursery, special educational needs support and Children’s & Young People’s Services before becoming an Assessor. I have been assessing for 12 years, I specialise as a Safeguarding Deputy.


Training & development officer
I have 19 years’ experience in passenger transport as a driver, mentor, supervisor and trainer. I have worked for Realise as a trainer since January 2020. My role gives me great opportunities to share the knowledge and skills that I have developed over the last 19 years in passenger transport. Working with and supporting new and established drivers to give them the confidence, knowledge and skills needed to become a professional driver in the bus industry.

No prior qualifications are required to be a level 3 teaching assistant however Maths and English would be an advantage.

Wages are set by the employer. Apprentice national minimum wage is currently £4.30 per hour. Some employers may choose to pay more than this, but they cannot pay any less.
Typically, the level 3 teaching assistant course will take around 12 months to complete. Our programme has been designed around the academic year to ensure that apprentices are able to get their on-the-job training allowance completed.
