About the course

Managing Anxiety and Returning to Work

Feeling anxious about returning to work?

Our free, friendly course in Lincolnshire builds your confidence, skills and readiness.

Thinking about returning to work? You’re not alone.

Stepping back into work after a career break, whether that’s been a few months or a few years, can bring up all sorts of feelings. Excitement, sure. But also, nerves, self-doubt, and that nagging “what if I’ve forgotten everything” worry.

Here’s the truth: you haven’t forgotten everything. You’ve been building skills the whole time; you just might not have clocked them as “workplace skills” yet.

Our Managing Anxiety and Returning to Work course is a practical, supportive session designed to help you quieten the worry, rediscover your strengths, and walk into your next role (or interview) feeling like yourself again.

Why join this course?

Whether you’re returning after raising a family, recovering from illness, a redundancy, or simply a long break from the world of work, this course meets you where you are. By the end, you’ll be able to:

  • Build genuine confidence to take that next step back into work.
  • Manage the anxiety and worries that come with returning to the workplace.
  • Recognise the transferable skills and strengths you’ve picked up through life, not just past jobs.
  • Walk into interviews with more confidence and self-belief.
  • Feel practically ready for your first day back.
  • Boost your chances of not just landing a role but thriving in it.

What you’ll actually learn

We keep things practical, not preachy. Across the session, you’ll cover:

  • Naming your worries - identifying the common concerns people have about returning to work (you’ll probably recognise a few of your own).
  • Understanding the worry cycle - how anxious thoughts feed into feelings and behaviours, and why that cycle keeps spinning.
  • Breaking the cycle - simple, usable techniques to interrupt anxious thinking when it shows up.
  • Spotting your strengths - uncovering the workplace-ready skills you’ve built, even if you haven’t been working in a while.
  • Talking about yourself with confidence - how to communicate your skills clearly and confidently in interviews.
  • Surviving (and enjoying) day one - practical strategies for managing first-day nerves.

Who is this course for?

Good news, this one’s open and welcoming:

  • Anyone returning to work, whatever the reason for your break.
  • No formal qualifications needed.
  • You just need to be aged 19+ and living in Lincolnshire (subject to Adult Skills Fund eligibility criteria)

If that’s you, you’re exactly who this course was built for.

How it works

We’ve kept the format simple:

  • A 4-hour, face-to-face course with real conversation and support.
  • One-to-one support throughout the session.
  • Clear next steps into employment or an apprenticeship once you’re done.
