About the course

Level 2 Understanding Autism

This Level 2 course is designed to build confidence and capability in supporting children with autism spectrum conditions (ASC). It provides a comprehensive introduction to autism, helping learners understand how autism can affect a child's communication, interaction, behaviour and sensory experiences.

Qualifications included
Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism

Throughout the course, participants will explore the triad of impairments, including challenges with social communication, difficulties in social interaction, and restricted or repetitive behaviours. You will gain insight into the distinctive characteristics of autism and Asperger's, enabling you to better recognise and respond to the individual needs of children on the spectrum.

The course also covers early signs and indicators of autism, the professional diagnostic process, and relevant legislation that supports children with additional needs. There is a strong practical focus, equipping you with strategies to make reasonable adjustments, manage challenging behaviour, and create inclusive, supportive environments.

You will also examine the wider social impact of autism on children and their families, explore the importance of sensory-friendly environments, and develop skills to identify and access appropriate sources of support.

Is this course right for you?

This course is suitable for anyone who works with, or is looking to work with, children in education, care or community settings and wants to build their understanding of autism.

It is also a good fit for those considering a career in childcare, education or SEND support, or anyone who wants to develop inclusive, practical strategies to better support children on the autism spectrum.
