What Being an Apprentice Involves
As an Early Years Apprentice, you’ll be part of a supportive team, learning while making a positive impact in children’s lives. You’ll:
• Dedicate 20% of your week to training, with the remainder spent gaining hands-on experience in a vibrant, nurturing environment.
• Help create a warm, fun, and safe space where children thrive.
• Engage children in play-based activities inspired by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
• Build strong, supportive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
• Support children’s developmental milestones and keep parents informed with updates.
• Assist with daily routines, maintaining the highest standards of safety, hygiene, and care.

Qualifications required

  • GCSE level education and experience working with children is preferred for a level 3 role.

Personal qualities

  • • A genuine passion for working with children and supporting their development.
  • • A positive, proactive approach to learning and teamwork.
  • • A commitment to completing your apprenticeship tasks and training with enthusiasm.

Skills required

  • Pretending to eat playdough creations realistically is required, and that of drinking numerous cups of pretend tea
  • You must have the ability to read a ten-page fairy-tale, upside down, with at least 4 interruptions per page
  • Having a warm smiling face that makes every child feel special
  • You must be prepared to have lots of fun in the workplace. Laughter is something you can expect to be a large part of your working day
  • Finally, you must be prepared to feel loved, special and important to many young children and their families; there is simply no other job quite like this one

Training to be Provided

Your full role and responsibilities will be set out by your employer. They will provide you with all of the on-the-job training you need to up-skill in your role, and your 20% off-the-job learning will be incorporated as part of your working day.
You will be working towards the Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship standard, which includes:
• Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours
• Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Educator
• Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid or Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid
• Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)

This will be delivered by your dedicated training provider, Realise.
