When you join the Lighthouse Nursery as an Early Years Apprentice you will have the opportunity to learn a variety of skills and responsibilities which include the following:

Your responsibilities will include:


Planning and organising a range of stimulating activities
Supervising and observing children from 0 to 5 years old
Supporting children to develop their independence and social skills
Motivating the children and inspiring them to experience the awe and wonder of the world they live in
Shaping children’s learning experience and learning a range of different approaches to child development and learning: Montessori, Reggio Emilia and High Scope
Working alongside professional Sports Coaches, Phonics Teachers and Drama and Dance teachers
Teaching children to develop positive relationships with other children and adults
Meeting care needs of children, e.g. changing nappies, feeding and interactions
Making sure the environment is clean and tidy and creating a stimulating learning environment

Qualifications required

  • . Grade C / 4 in GCSE English and maths or Level 2 Functional Skills or working towards

Your full role and responsibilities will be set out by your employer. The Lighthouse Nursery will provide you with all of the on-the-job training you need to up-skill in your role, and your 20% off-the-job learning will be incorporated as part of your working day.

You will be working towards the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner apprenticeship standard, which includes:

• Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours

• Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner

• Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid or Level 2 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid

• Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)

This will be delivered through Lighthouse Nursery's dedicated training provider, Realise.

Training to be Provided
