Students at Yorkshire Rose College are developing their skills in a refreshed, professional salon space, now supported by a donation of equipment from Realise.
The college’s hair and beauty salon was recently refurbished, creating a modern environment designed to reflect industry standards. Named Inspired by the students themselves, the space is now equipped with new hairstyling tools, model heads and beauty products, helping learners build confidence and practical skills.
Yorkshire Rose College, part of The Carr Fenton Foundation, supports students who are deaf, hard of hearing, autistic, or who have a range of communication needs. The college provides a tailored learning experience, from one-to-one support through to independent study, ensuring every learner can progress in a way that works for them.
Becca Lynch, Fundraising Officer at The Carr Fenton Foundation, said the donation will make a real difference:
“We are so grateful to all our partners for supporting the work we do. The equipment kindly donated by Realise is a very welcome addition to our revamped salon, which we hope to open to external bookings soon. This will provide vital real-world experience for our students.
Everyone at the salon and college would like to say a huge thank you. This support is genuinely impactful for our learners.”
At Realise, supporting communities and creating opportunities through skills development is central to what we do. Alongside the donation, the organisation is continuing to build its relationship with the Foundation, including its Aspire to Be employability programme.
Julie Taylor, Head of Strategic Partnerships in Health and Social Care at Realise, said:
“We are committed to building meaningful partnerships with organisations making a real difference locally. We are delighted to support Yorkshire Rose College with this donation and to continue developing our relationship with The Carr Fenton Foundation.
The work they do to support people with communication needs and learning differences is vital, and we are proud to play a small part in that.”
The Inspired salon will soon open its doors to external clients, giving students valuable, hands-on experience in a real working environment while continuing to build confidence, independence and career-ready skills.
