About the course

This course gives you the opportunity to develop your hairdressing, styling and employability skills. The programme is fully funded so there’s absolutely no cost to take part, but you could walk away with vital skills that employers are asking for and even a new job!  

 

Is this course right for you?

This course is suitable for anyone looking for an introduction to hair and styling and anyone who is unemployed and would like to find out what is involved in a hairdressing career. 

What you’ll learn

You will learn the skills, knowledge and behaviours you need to begin your hairdressing  career.

You will learn how to: 

  • Create two strand twists, fishtail, French plait and cornrow plaits.
  • Research and create a look.
  • Use a block head to create an array of hairstyles. 
  • Gain knowledge and skills to prepare you for working in the hairdressing industry. 
  • Identify your strengths and weaknesses and get help with job searching. 
  • Understand mental health, forms of mental illnesses, and cultural influences.  
  • Write an attractive CV. 

You will also receive nationally recognised qualifications in: 

  • Developing yourself level 1 
  • Preparation for work level 1
  • Working towards goals entry level 3 
  • Working as part of a group entry level 3 
  • Plaiting and twisting hair level 1 
  • Styling hair level 1

How you’ll learn

This course is taught face-to-face in a classroom environment with all the necessary equipment provided. You will be set hands-on tasks to practice your new-found skills.

Throughout the programme you will develop your confidence and knowledge which will help you to begin a career in hairdressing.

You be assigned a dedicated tutor with relevant industry experience, who will guide you through this course.

I love what I do and have a great passion for hairdressing and also supporting other people. I’m the adult education tutor for the hairdressing and barbering sector. I love my job role and the team I work with. We are very creative and passionate people.

I have been in training providers settings for about 16 years across South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire doing various roles from recruitment and sales to employability on a wide range of contracts for adult education, apprenticeships, and NEETs. I’m a South Yorkshire lass at heart but moved over to West Yorkshire six years ago and I have never looked back since.
