Name: Anya Woodcock

Apprenticeship: Level 3 HR Support Apprenticeship

Job Title: HR Assistant

Employer: SPC (2021) Ltd

Starting the Journey

As an HR Assistant, I chose the Level 3 HR Support Apprenticeship to build my knowledge and develop the skills needed for a long-term career in HR. The programme gave me practical experience, recognised accreditation, and greater confidence in my role.

Dedicated Tutor Support

A key part of my success was the incredible support from my tutor, Sam. She provided consistent encouragement and guidance throughout the programme and was always approachable when I needed reassurance or flexibility.

During the programme, I was involved in a car accident, which made the period more difficult. However, with flexibility and strong support from my tutor, I was able to manage my learning and continue progressing.

Her support helped me stay focused and confident, and I genuinely feel I could not have completed the apprenticeship without her.

Developing Skills and Confidence

During the apprenticeship, I strengthened key skills including time management, prioritisation, accountability, and active listening. These have improved how I manage my workload and contribute within my team.

The knowledge gained has also supported stronger teamwork, improving shared understanding and purpose across the department.

Building Networks and Professional Relationships

One of the most valuable aspects of the apprenticeship was the opportunity to build lasting professional relationships. I formed networking friendships with people from different sectors and HR specialisms, and we remain in contact now the course has finished.

The programme felt sociable and inclusive — more than just assignments and workshops, it created a supportive community that will continue to benefit me throughout my career.

Career Progression and New Opportunities

Completing the apprenticeship has truly changed my life for the better. I am starting a new role as a Recruitment Manager with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), with plans to relocate to Liverpool shortly after.

The skills and confidence I gained enabled me to secure this role and progress in my HR career. I was so inspired by the experience that I asked my new employer whether they support CIPD apprenticeships, as I am keen to progress onto the Level 5 qualification.

Advice for Future Apprentices

My advice is simple: stay committed and see it through. The experience can be life-changing, opening doors and creating opportunities you may not have imagined.

Conclusion

The Level 3 HR Support Apprenticeship has been a transformative experience, helping me build confidence, strengthen my skills, expand my network, and progress into an exciting new role. With the right support and dedication, it can truly open doors.
