Caroline Williams: from airline cabin crew to nursing, progressing her career with Realise.

Caroline completed her level 2 maths course with Realise and is now ready to embark on a nursing degree at Bolton University.

About Caroline

Caroline Williams, a former airline cabin crew member, wanted to embark on a new career in nursing.

However, she needed to overcome a barrier to reach her destination, a level 2 maths qualification was required to apply for a nursing degree.

After chatting with a co-worker, she discovered the answer: a fully funded math qualification through Realise. This course is equivalent to a GCSE grade of A-C or 4-9, which fits perfectly with the entry requirements Caroline needed to kick off her further education.

The programme is delivered online through an expert tutor and offers the chance to get the level 2 maths qualification for free. The course takes up to 28 weeks and covers essential topics such division, multiplication and using a calculator.

We asked Caroline about how she felt before starting her level 2 maths course:

“I was looking for a career progression within the NHS and knew that I needed my level 2 maths to be able to apply for a nursing degree. I was both nervous and excited to start the online course with Realise, but I knew it was a step I had to take for my future.”

“Realise has been instrumental in my career transition. Their adult learning courses are flexible, comprehensive, and truly life-changing. I am grateful for the opportunities they’ve provided me.”

Bright future

Caroline studied the course under the guidance of Realise tutor, Jennifer Jones. She remembered:

“Jennifer was so patient with me and explained everything so well.  Jennifer is a fantastic tutor, and any pupil would be lucky to be taught by her.”

After Caroline didn’t pass her first exam, Jennifer stepped in to help her out by using old exam papers for revision. Caroline mentioned that this support was a great help and really made a difference in her success in the programme.

“I was getting more and more confident each week and finally felt ready and confident enough to sit my exam – which I finally passed.”

Jennifer Jones praised Caroline’s hard work:

“Caroline was a dedicated and curious learner who worked extremely hard to achieve her maths qualification. She was never afraid to ask questions and kept focused throughout the course. It was a pleasure to help Caroline on her learning journey.”

We asked Caroline what she has taken away from the course:

“Completing this course has not only given me the qualification I needed but also the confidence to pursue my dream career in nursing.

“I have been offered a place at Bolton University, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I would definitely recommend Realise adult learning to anyone, and I have already recommended it several times to my colleagues.”

Caroline now has a bright career ahead of her in nursing and we wish her well in her studies.
