Cleopatra's new career in early years

At 57, Cleopatra from Gillingham is exploring new career opportunities and commemorating her husband's legacy through a Skills Bootcamp with Realise.

Resilience and determination

Cleopatra Sinos, a 57-year-old resident of Gillingham, Kent, has faced personal tragedy after the loss of her husband. Throughout this, she has shown remarkable resilience and determination. She is now turning her own experience into an opportunity to help others.

As a former chemical engineer, Cleopatra has always had ambitions of working with young children. This led her to enrol in the Realise Skills Bootcamp in Early Years, a decision that has not only opened up new avenues for her but also serves as a tribute to her late husband’s memory.

“Realise’s Bootcamp has given me a huge opportunity. It’s helped me become more confident and equipped me with the tools to better support the learners I will work with. I see myself in this course, and I’m grateful for the experience.”

Transformation

We asked Cleopatra about her experience during the Skills Bootcamp:

At the start of the programme, Cleopatra was anxious and unsure about how she would cope with the group setting. But by the end of the six weeks, she felt transformed. She said, “I’m so thankful that I’ve actually done the course because it’s completely brought me out of my shell and it’s made me realise that going into the nursery setting that I’m going to be OK.”

Briliant and convenient

The Skills Bootcamp wasn’t without its challenges. The pace was fast, but Cleopatra appreciated the clear structure and easy-to-follow presentations. She found the connection between knowledge and practice particularly beneficial.

Cleopatra found the online format of the course to be brilliant and convenient. Being able to participate from her own environment helped alleviate her anxiety. In addition, she enjoyed the collaboration with other learners and the ability to share ideas.

Moving on to an apprenticeship

After completing the programme, Cleopatra is on track for a bright future in the early years sector. She is progressing to a level 3 apprenticeship with Realise, where she will continue her vocation.

To new Skills Bootcamp learners, Cleopatra advises, “Take it in your stride, take your time. Just go with the flow. Everything will be explained and by the end of the course they will be where I am now, moving on to the level 3 apprenticeship.”
