Megan's story

Realise

The student becomes the master as Megan goes from apprentice of the year to become a qualified trainer with Realise.

About Megan

Megan Hughes, aged 22, is just three months into her new role as Trainee Trainer Assessor at Realise having started her career at a local nursery in Whiston.

While completing her early years practitioner level 2 and early years educator level 3, Megan was able to get hands on experience in an early years setting and soon started to progress through the ranks.

However, after securing a permanent position at Waverton Day Nurseries in Whiston, the opportunity came knocking to get back in the classroom and inspire the next generation of early years learners.

Speaking as part of National Apprenticeship Week, Megan said:

“I’ve only been working at Realise for three months but I’m absolutely loving it.

“When I came across the advert for a trainee trainer assessor it felt like a sign and I knew the prospect of working for one of the biggest training providers in the UK and kick-starting my career was something I had to go for.

“I couldn’t believe it when my previous trainer assessor, Kimberley Gleave, rang to deliver the good news and offer me the job. It was such a surreal experience but also the perfect way to begin this new chapter.

“I can honestly say that completing my early years apprenticeship shaped my life for the better and I wouldn’t be where I am today without this sector or the outstanding support I’ve received since day one.”

After leaving college with A-Levels in psychology, biology and English language, Megan knew she wanted to discover more about child development but was unsure what path to take.

The knowledge and skills I developed during the course were amazing, not just within my work but as a person.

She added:

“I successfully applied for a level 2 apprentice role in a local nursery and after my first meeting with Kim, I knew I was on the correct path with Realise.

“The knowledge and skills I developed during the course were amazing, not just within my work but as a person because I found I was a lot more responsible and motivated as well as much happier.

“With lots of support from Realise, my employer and especially Kim, I decided to sign up for my level 3 soon after because I couldn’t wait to progress further.

“However, it wasn’t until I was awarded the Apprentice of the Year award when I started to dream of becoming a trainer assessor myself because I wanted to make someone else feel this special and important within their career.

“Even though I loved my time working in a nursery, I knew with my experience I could support others looking to get into the industry and show them how quickly you can progress if you put your mind to it.

“When I first started, I didn’t realise all of the options that were available in this sector but with the help of Kim and the rest of the team at Realise, I now want to inspire and motivate others to take this leap into childcare because it’s the best decision I’ve ever made.”
