Thomas Walker: A journey of confidence and growth with Realise

Realise

From unemployment to a promising career in hospitality, Thomas's journey with Realise has been transformative.

Thomas’ Story

Thomas Walker, a 22-year-old vinyl record collector from Blackpool, found his calling in the hospitality industry after enrolling in a course with Realise. Having previously worked at Revolution Bars, he was keen to return to the sector but lacked the confidence and direction to do so.

His work coach introduced him to an upcoming hospitality course with Holiday Inn, offered by Realise. This opportunity marked the beginning of a transformative learning experience for Thomas.

Training Experience

Thomas praises the training provided by Realise as “outstanding,” with special mention of his tutor, Stuart Gough. The engaging lessons and focus on communication skills helped Thomas overcome his confidence issues.

A standout moment for Thomas was the ‘Dragon’s Den’ activity. Despite initial nerves, he found the confidence to present his pitch. Although unsuccessful, the experience left him feeling proud and more self-assured.

Thomas recalled:

“At first, I was scared to present my pitch, and even though the pitch was unsuccessful, realising that I had the confidence to stand there and talk in front of others was very satisfying and I left there that day feeling very proud of myself.”

Impact of the Course

The course has had a significant impact on Thomas’s life. He entered with low confidence and uncertainty about his career path. Now, he is leaving with newfound confidence and a clear vision for his future in hospitality.

Thomas explained:

“I went into this course lacking confidence and not knowing how to continue with my career in hospitality. Now, I’m leaving it with bundles of confidence and I have a better understanding of how I can continue my hospitality career.”

Advice to Others: Thomas encourages others considering a course with Realise to take the leap. He credits the programme with not only enhancing his knowledge but also helping him make new friends.

Thomas explained:

“My advice to others thinking about starting a course with Realise is that they should 100% do it. I was hesitant to sign up at first, but I’ve gained more knowledge and also gained friends along the way.”
