The course comprises of remote webinars and regular 121s with a tutor, giving you the opportunity to learn flexibly. You will receive a professional Level 2 qualification awarded to you by TQUK.

Upon completion, learners can enhance their expertise with Adult Care apprenticeships or specialised care certificates, improving their career prospects in the care sector.

This course is suitable for anyone over the age of 19 and working in the health and social care sector. Whether you are at a junior or senior level it is a valued qualification to apply for.

It is an ideal programme for you if you are working with or will work with adults experiencing Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes in a care home or a domestic setting. Additionally it is suitable for you if you wish to develop your general knowledge and understanding of diabetes.

The regulated qualification comprises four mandatory units:

Unit One – Understand diabetes

Unit Two – Prevention and early intervention of Type 2 diabetes

Unit Three – Understand the initial care of diabetes

Unit Four – Understand the treatment and management of diabetes

• Understand the function of insulin in the blood
• Understand the different forms and causes of diabetes
• Know the risk factors for developing Type 2 diabetes
• Understand how diabetes is confirmed
• Understand factors relating to the prevention of Type 2 diabetes
• Understand how diet, exercise and lifestyle affect Type 2 diabetes
• Understand the social impact of diabetes
• Understand how to work with individuals to manage diabetes
• Know how diabetes is monitored
• Understand how diabetes is treated
• Know the treatment for hypoglycaemia
• Know the treatment for hyperglycaemia
• Understand the complications that can occur as a result of having diabetes
• Understand ways to prevent or detect complications associated with diabetes

Participants will also cover maths, English, digital skills, safeguarding and prevent and British values.
