About the course
The Understanding Autism Level 2 course is designed to develop your knowledge and confidence in supporting children with autism. The course explores autism spectrum conditions in depth, helping learners understand how autism can affect communication, interaction, and behaviour.
You will gain a clear understanding of the triad of impairments, including social communication challenges, difficulties with social interaction, and restricted and repetitive behaviours. The course also explores the key characteristics of autism and Asperger's, enabling you to recognise and respond to the individual needs of children on the spectrum.
Key topics include early signs and symptoms of autism, the professional diagnosis process, and relevant legislation. You will develop practical strategies for making reasonable adjustments, managing challenging behaviours, and identifying appropriate sources of support for children and their families. The course also considers the impact of society on children with autism, the importance of sensory-friendly environments, and ways to effectively support sensory needs.
