About the course
Working in care is a highly skilled role, and this course focuses on developing strong foundations, so learners are safe to practise and able to deliver effective, person-centred care. Through our robust, consistent and quality-assured programme, our learners are supported to quickly develop their skills while making a meaningful, positive difference to the lives of people facing physical, practical, social, emotional or intellectual challenges.
Please note this free course is available in West Yorkshire (Leeds, Wakefield, Bradford, Calderdale, and Kirklees).
Whilst on the diploma course, you’ll receive a wide variety of learning opportunities to get the appropriate knowledge, skills and behaviours needed in your role so that you’re able to successfully complete the programme and progress in your career.
You’ll be supported by our highly skilled, enthusiastic and passionate expert team helping you to develop into a confident and skilled care/support worker.
The learning will be relevant to what you do in day-to-day tasks so that you’re able to effectively carry out a range of tasks and be responsible for activities within the care environment.
Training is delivered both on-the-job and off-the-job. You’ll receive remote or face-to-face teaching and observations as well as joining webinars, one-to-one sessions, completing online learning, and independent tasks. Your trainer will support you every month with a teaching and learning session and always be on hand so that you get the very best support.

As a care worker helping those with care and support needs, you’ll deliver essential care support, being able to assist, shape and help individuals to have control and choice in their lives.
Typical job titles and roles that are suitable for this programme include: Care Assistant, Care Worker, Support Worker, Relief Team Worker, Key Worker in Domiciliary Services or Day Services and Home Care Support Worker.
Throughout the programme we will meet with you to ensure you understand your programme, to report on your development and progress as well as making sure your programme requirements are being met.
What you’ll learn:
You’ll gain a Level 2 Diploma in care by developing a range of essential skills so that you’re skilled and able to make a positive difference to people’s lives.
You’ll be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to help your clients achieve their personal goals and live as independently and safely as possible, enabling them to have control and choice in their lives.
Key learning topics covered during the diploma include:
- Delivering safe, person-centred care
- Understanding duty of care and responsibilities
- Supporting independence, choice and control
- Working safely within statutory and legal requirements
- Communicating effectively in care environments
How you’ll learn
Our sector expert staff will support you to achieve the diploma. We have highly skilled and knowledgeable staff, with significant experience of working in the industry, who will be able to share their experiences and support you.
Our trainers share their own experiences of working in the sector so that you successfully achieve the diploma programme and are prepared for the future.
We deliver the programme throughout the year providing you with the flexibility to start the diploma when it meets your needs. All learning is either on a 1-2-1 basis or small group webinars, so you have the best experience possible with sector experts.

- You will also record and track your learning progress through your e-portfolio, helping to support and evidence your journey.
Diploma Eligibility Criteria:
You must be a West Yorkshire resident, aged 19 or over on 31 August 2025, be ordinarily resident in the UK, and have the right to live and work in the UK.
You must be unemployed or employed and earning less than £25,750 per year.
If you are employed and earn above this threshold, you may still be eligible.
