Party planning to playrooms: Aspen’s Skills Bootcamp experience

Looking for a new career in childcare, Aspen started the Skills Bootcamp to get their foot in the door.

A Change of Career

Aspen Liddell from Preston, Lancashire, wanted to explore a career as a Nursery Practitioner and saw the Skills Bootcamp as the perfect opportunity to develop the necessary skills to kickstart a new career.

Our Skills Bootcamps are expertly designed to provide individuals with a direct pathway into the early years sector, helping learners gain practical expertise and confidence to secure an accelerated level 3 apprenticeship or employment.

While currently working at The Fun Experts, a corporate entertainment and events company, Aspen sought a way to transition away from corporate events and into early years education.

“The Skills Bootcamp was a great opportunity for me to learn further,” Aspen shares.

“The tutors were incredibly supportive, helping learners complete the course successfully. They were also very understanding of different learning methods, making the experience accessible and engaging for everyone.”

A Team of Support

One of the key services within the Skills Bootcamp programme is the personalised guidance offered by our tutors and career coaches.

Aspen’s Tutor, Daljit was impressed with their commitment and enthusiasm whilst on the programme.

“Aspen has truly stood out during the EYFS Skills Bootcamp! Always showing great enthusiasm for working in the early years sector. Aspen actively participated in discussions, bringing insightful contributions that enhanced our learning environment.”

Aspen particularly valued the career preparation support, which included CV-building sessions and interview coaching.

“The careers coaches prepared us for interviews by helping put together the perfect CV and teaching us everything we needed to know to secure an apprenticeship.”

Looking Ahead

With a stronger understanding of what it takes to become a Nursery Practitioner and a well-crafted CV in hand, Aspen is now actively applying for apprenticeships in their local area.

To build up their experience even further, Aspen has also taken the initiative to volunteer at the local Scouts club for the age 4-6 group.

The Skills Bootcamp has provided a clear pathway into the sector for Aspen, offering both practical learning and career progression opportunities.

“I would very much recommend doing this Skills Bootcamp,” Aspen concludes. “I was taught a lot and now have a much better understanding of what is needed to succeed in early years.”
