Realise helped Sarah build a career as an Additional Needs Teaching Assistant

After being out of work for four years due to redundancy and personal circumstances, Sarah was searching for a fresh start. Her journey with Realise has been truly inspirational and led her to a new career as an Additional Needs Teaching Assistant (ANTA) in a primary school.

Discovering Realise

Sarah first heard about Realise through the Ingeus Work and Health Programme, which she was referred to by the Job Centre. “My work coach at Ingeus found out about the course and helped me get enrolled,” she shared. Having previously worked as an Operations Support Manager before redundancy, Sarah was keen to rebuild her confidence and skills. During her time learning with Realise, Sarah completed three courses: Level 1 Preparing to Work in Schools, Level 2 Support Work in Schools and Colleges and Level 2 Understanding Autism.

First steps and overcoming nerves

Like many learners, Sarah felt nervous on the first day. “I was really nervous and anxious but was quickly put at ease,” she recalled. Thanks to the welcoming and supportive environment, those initial nerves soon disappeared, allowing her to fully engage in her training.

A love for learning

Taking part in the courses had a profound impact on Sarah’s confidence and well-being. “I didn’t realise how much studying and doing the courses would help my well-being and help me in many other ways, including improving my self-esteem and confidence. I finally felt really proud of myself. I caught the bug for learning! After so long, my brain finally felt awake.”

Sarah enjoyed all aspects of her training, appreciating how engaging and interactive the sessions were. “All sessions were never just someone stood at the front talking to a room. All sessions were always interactive, and everyone had their chance to ask questions or give their input.”

“I finally felt really proud of myself. I caught the bug for learning! After so long, my brain finally felt awake.”

Supportive tutor

A key part of Sarah’s positive experience was the support from her tutor. “Leeanne is incredible. She is an amazing person and an amazing tutor. She made me feel ‘seen’ and appreciated for the first time in a long time. She was so supportive and so patient. Her chats and advice have stuck with me until now. I will never be able to thank her enough.”

New beginning

The impact of completing three courses with Realise has been life-changing. “Completing the courses with Realise has made massive differences and changes in my life. I am finally employed and back on track to getting my life back and being able to provide for myself and my son.”

With a newfound passion for learning, Sarah is eager to continue developing her skills. “Once I have settled into my new routine with work, I will definitely be looking into studying more. If the chance was there again, and the right courses came along, I would not hesitate to be part of Leeanne’s classroom again.”

A message to others

For anyone considering training with Realise, Sarah shares her experience “All the staff I met were so professional, helpful, and kind. The first day I started, I was quickly put at ease and made to feel welcome. Any and all issues that came up were always dealt with very quickly, and the communication was always great.”

Realise has not only provided the qualifications needed to start a new career but has also reignited a love for learning and a sense of purpose for Sarah.
