About the session

Identifying and supporting children with SEND is crucial, but we can often become too focused on identifying delays or concerns rather than embracing the different ways children learn. This childcare webinar explores how we can develop a celebratory approach to SEND, and you will develop a new framework for thinking about play, learning and development.

What you’ll learn

In this course, you will learn about:

  • Ableism, neurodiversity and key misconceptions about SEND and inclusion.
  • Different practical observational techniques for children with developmental differences and needs
  • A celebratory framework for SEND & inclusion
  • The interlink between EYFS observation, planning & assessment, and the 0-25 SEND Code of Practice (DfE, 2015) Graduated approach.

About Kerry Payne

Kerry Payne is an early childhood SEND specialist. She has worked in the early education sector for fifteen years and is currently completing a PhD in early childhood early intervention. Kerry has worked as an early years practitioner and SENCO before becoming a consultant in a local authority focusing on developing the whole team approaches for SEND support and leading the training programme for SEND & inclusion.

More recently, she has worked as a freelance specialist and a university lecturer for a London university. Kerry is passionate about challenging ableism within early years and instead, embraces a neurodiverse approach to education. In addition, Kerry is also a writer and an author with A Guide to SEND in the Early Years being published in November 2021. Kerry is neurodivergent with ADHD and passionate to change the stereotypes about this condition.
