From education to employment: Kiara's journey

Kiara was ready to leave high school and knew she would excel in a working and learning role.

About Kiara:

Kiara Murphy, a Business Administration Apprentice from Wigan, never felt fulfilled in school. The opportunity to leave her part-time waitressing role for a full-time paid apprenticeship with a recruitment company called Assist Resourcing UK Ltd was the better path for her.

Kiara enrolled on a Level 2 Customer Service apprenticeship with Realise and embarked on her journey of growth and self-confidence.

We asked Kiara what a typical day looks like as a Business Admin Assistant:

Kiara attends to her to-do list, completing the tasks set for the day, whether that involves contacting clients or candidates. Later on, Kiara usually sends emails to acknowledge applicants who have come through overnight or over the weekend.

The rest of the day can be spent recruiting candidates and tackling operational tasks.

If it is a sales day for Kiara, she will spend the remainder of the day speaking to potential clients and prospects, going out to see them and dropping off promotional materials. If a meeting has been booked, Kiara will attend it with her manager.

Sales days are one of Kiara’s favourite elements to the job as it is an opportunity for her to prove her capabilities to others and build important relationships with Managers.

Helping people:

It is clear that Kiara excels in a people-facing role and is proud to help others find a suitable vacancy and secure employment that makes them shine.

“I enjoy speaking to new people and getting out there and testing my ability to do more. Mostly I enjoy speaking to candidates and finding them a vacancy that suits them and makes them happy.”

Kiara’s motivation is driven by putting people in work that is stable and ongoing.

She finds significant fulfilment in ‘releasing the stress’ from her clients by handling their recruitment needs and challenges. Kiara relishes the opportunity to filter through applicants and ensure that they receive the best candidate that fulfils their position.

Kiara’s apprenticeship experience:

Kiara speaks of her apprenticeship experience with Realise fondly, saying that she can’t pinpoint anything specific as she truly ‘enjoyed every part!’.

“The training I have received from Realise has been very thorough. My questions never go unanswered and after I meet with my Assessor I gain new knowledge. It was very insightful, and I appreciate how helpful my Assessor was.”

Determined to advance her skills Kiara tackled her fears head-on with the support of her Tutor.

Having left school without the required functional skills qualification, Kiara showed great commitment and bravery when re-sitting her Maths and English exams, despite being visibly scared at the prospect of further tests.

Supported all the way:

All apprentices who study with Realise receive one-to-one support from their Trainer Assessors throughout their programme. Kiara built a great rapport with Sarah Jowett, her Assessor who she felt played a significant part throughout her journey with Realise.

Sarah supported Kiara and gave her the confidence and belief in her ability to pass her English and Maths assessments.

From identifying what revision styles work best, to listening to any issues or questions Kiara may have, Sarah was always there.

“She gives a very thorough approach, and I am very appreciative of Sarah. I believe that Sarah has played a huge part in passing my exams and getting to the end of my apprenticeship. Thanks Sarah!”

Impact:

With her newfound confidence and a stronger belief in her ability, Kiara has gone on to thrive at Assist Resourcing.

Sarah, Kiara’s Assessor also believes that Kiara has come since completing the apprenticeship programme.

“Kiara showed constant improvement and has received great feedback from her Manager and this has even been picked up by Managers in other areas of the business. Having completed the Level 2 Customer Service Apprenticeship, Kiara has excelled within the sales department, and they now take her out to be involved with clients. She is now an asset to the company.”

Any advice for those considering an apprenticeship?

It can be hard transitioning to a work environment after school or college, but the best advice I can give is to be accepting of criticism whether that be constructive or good feedback as it helps you learn and grow.

If you were recruited and were successful with your apprenticeship, then never doubt your ability as you had qualities that stood out from others!”
