The Evolving Workforce Development Pathway: Realise Supporting Career Progression in Adult Social Care

The Evolving Workforce Development Pathway: Realise Supporting Career Progression in Adult Social Care

Have you heard about the continuing evolution of the Care Workforce Development Pathway, led by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) in collaboration with Skills for Care?

This initiative is not only shaping a clearer, more structured future for careers in adult social care, but also creating new opportunities for training, progression, and professional recognition within the sector.

What’s New?

The pathway has recently been expanded to include four newly recognised roles:

1) Personal Assistant

2) Enhanced Care Worker

3) Deputy Manager

4) Registered Manager.

These additions reflect the growing complexity and professionalism of the care sector, while offering clearer progression routes for those passionate about making a difference.

Learning and Development at the Core

At Realise, we recognise that structured development is key to both retaining great people and raising the standard of care across the UK. With the government’s renewed commitment to upskilling the workforce, there is a real opportunity to equip care professionals with the tools they need to thrive.

Investment in the Sector

Encouragingly, the government has allocated funding to support these developments, not only in terms of training places and qualifications but also in wider learning resources that promote innovation and best practice.

How Realise Can Support You

We’re already aligning our programmes to the updated Workforce Development Pathway, supporting individuals and employers across the sector to map out clear, impactful career journeys.

Whether you're looking to build the capability of care and support workers, strengthen leadership through deputy and registered manager development, or upskill your team with specialist care qualifications, Realise is here to support you with flexible, expert-led training solutions.

Future-Proofing the Workforce

The updated pathway is designed to grow and adapt, just like the sector itself.

It responds directly to sector feedback and evolving care needs, ensuring that those who work in care are valued, supported, and equipped to deliver high-quality services. At Realise, we’re committed to being part of that journey.
