Developing Project Capability That Drives Business Impact

Developing Project Capability That Drives Business Impact

Name: Claudia Scott
Role: Education Coordinator
Organisation: CHEC
Apprenticeship: Level 4 Associate Project Manager

Developing Skills That Deliver in the Real World

Claudia chose the Level 4 Associate Project Manager Apprenticeship to continue developing professionally while working full-time in a project-focused role.

“I wanted to keep progressing academically while also building practical skills I could use in my day-to-day work,” she explains.

The programme offered the ideal balance - combining structured learning with real-world application. It enabled Claudia to strengthen her ability to manage projects effectively, while opening future career opportunities within CHEC.

Navigating Change and Staying Focused

Claudia’s apprenticeship journey was far from straightforward.

During the programme, she experienced redundancy, took 12 months of maternity leave, and transitioned into a newly created role within a completely new organisation and sector. Alongside this, her original training provider went into liquidation before she transferred to Realise.

Despite these challenges, Claudia remained focused and committed to completing her qualification.

Applying Learning to Create Immediate Impact

Through the apprenticeship, Claudia has applied a wide range of project management principles directly into her role.

She has strengthened her ability to:

    • > Plan and prioritise work effectively
    • > Manage multiple projects and competing deadlines
    • > Understand project lifecycles and identify risks early
    • > Apply structured problem-solving to support delivery
    •

“The apprenticeship has helped me bring more structure to how I approach my work and improved how I manage projects and day-to-day activities.”

Her ability to adapt quickly in a new role and sector has also been underpinned by the skills developed during the programme, including continuous improvement and resilience.

Driving Better Ways of Working

The impact of Claudia’s learning has extended beyond her individual role.

By introducing improved planning and prioritisation approaches, she has helped create greater clarity around timelines, expectations, and task management across her team.

This has resulted in:

    • > More organised and structured project delivery
    • > Improved visibility of workloads and priorities
    • > Greater efficiency in managing day-to-day activities
    •

Growing Confidence and Unlocking Opportunity

Completing the apprenticeship has given Claudia greater confidence in her role and her capabilities.

“Having a recognised qualification to support my experience has made a big difference. It’s given me the confidence to take on new responsibilities at work.”

Building on the success of her Level 4 Associate Project Manager Apprenticeship, Claudia is continuing her professional development and is due to begin the Excellence in Leadership Level 5 Apprenticeship with Realise in August 2026. This next step reflects her ongoing commitment to learning, leadership development, and making an even greater impact within CHEC.

Advice for Future Apprentices

Claudia encourages others to approach an apprenticeship with an open mindset:

“Stay organised, manage your time well, and make the most of the all support available - it’s a great opportunity for both personal and professional development.”

Outcome in Focus

Claudia’s journey highlights the real impact of applied learning - even in the face of significant change. By combining resilience with practical skill development, she has strengthened both her own performance and the effectiveness of her team.
