From hesitant to confident: Eugenia’s journey into leadership
From hesitant to confident: Eugenia’s journey into leadership
Eugenia Ofori-Hene, a Healthcare Assistant at Routes Healthcare, enrolled on the Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship with Realise to build her skills, grow in confidence and take the next step in her career.
Building skills that make a difference
When Eugenia started her Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship with Realise, she was already working as a healthcare assistant and keen to grow.
She wanted to strengthen her skills, build her confidence and better understand her responsibilities as a care professional.
Through the programme, she developed key skills including effective communication, delivering person-centred care and a clearer understanding of her role within the wider care environment.
Balancing learning and life
Like many learners, Eugenia faced challenges along the way. Balancing her studies with family life was not easy.
But with the support of her Realise tutor, Donna, she was able to stay on track.
“Balancing learning with family life was very hectic. But my tutor was so patient and understanding. She worked me through my struggles and made it possible.”
That consistent support made a real difference, helping Eugenia complete her apprenticeship with confidence.
Finding her voice at work
One of the biggest changes for Eugenia has been her confidence in the workplace.
She now communicates more effectively with colleagues and service users, and feels empowered to raise concerns when needed.
“I used to be scared, thinking I might lose my job if I speak out. But that’s not the case.”
This shift has not only improved her own performance, but also strengthened her contribution to safe, high-quality care.
Real impact on day-to-day care
Eugenia applies her learning every day. From tailoring communication to individual care plans to confidently meeting the needs of new service users, her approach has evolved.
She has also seen improvements in her own work ethic and overall approach to her role.
Growing in confidence and capability
Completing the apprenticeship has had a lasting impact on Eugenia’s career.
“It has built my confidence massively in performance tasks, meeting new service users and communicating their needs tailored to them via the care plan.”
She now approaches her role with greater confidence, clarity and professionalism, all key qualities of a future leader in care.
Her advice to others
Eugenia’s message to anyone considering an apprenticeship is simple:
“Go for it! What do you have to lose? You’re developing yourself in the comfort of your own home with an amazing tutor who will encourage and support you until completion.”
A final thank you
Eugenia also wanted to recognise the support she received throughout her journey:
“A huge thanks to my tutor, Donna. She’s been the best throughout both my Level 2 and Level 3. You’re a star!”
