Since leaving school, Thomas has gained experience in hospitality, customer service, cleaning, and the postal service. These roles provided him with valuable skills, he felt it was time to expand his qualifications and explore a new career path.
While working full-time, Thomas found Realise through a Google search. Impressed by Realise’s flexible, adult-focused courses, he quickly enrolled in the Level 2 Functional Skills Maths course, seeing it as the ideal fit.
The Maths course that Thomas chose is free for anyone aged 19 and above, employed or unemployed (unemployed learners eligible in Greater Manchester only). The course can be studied online or in-person and is delivered over 8-28 weeks.
Thomas remembered feeling nervous on his first day of the course, saying “I was nervous because Maths was my weakest subject in school”. However, the supportive environment that Realise fosters helped ease his anxiety, and he soon realised he wasn’t alone, which strengthened his determination to succeed.
Thomas particularly valued the one-to-one Zoom calls with his tutor, whose patience, encouragement, and support played a key role in boosting his confidence and deepening his understanding of the material.
Achieving his Level 2 Maths qualification has opened new career and training opportunities for Thomas, making a career shift feel much more achievable than before Realise. Thomas remarked “It will make a career change easier for training and study opportunities”.
