Rachael’s story

Multiply is a new government-funded short course, available in the Greater Manchester area, aiming to help adults over 19 to improve their maths skills, confidence and career prospects through practical learning. The course is designed to help improve learners knowledge through enjoyable activities and games. Read our interview with Rachael below and find out how she utilises the skills and knowledge learnt on the Multiply course.

“If someone was considering doing one of these courses to improve their maths skills and confidence. I would say the multiply course is really good. Stop considering just come and do it.”

Rachael’s interview

Why did you sign up to multiply?

“I signed up to multiply because I wanted to increase my confidence in maths.”

What did you most enjoy about the learning?

“As well as being informative, the course has been really fun to do, it’s not been boring, so you’re engaged with it. It’s very lively and you learn at you own pace. Nobody makes you feel that you can’t achieve it.”

How do you plan to use the knowledge you have learnt?

“I am a treasurer of a local horticultural group so when I am writing a report, I can create a clearer image of how we are using our finances for our members to see. I will also be able to do the accounts and write them properly and more in-depth, using percentages with more of the knowledge I have learnt.”

What would you say to someone who is considering improving their maths but are anxious to do so?

“I would say to someone if they were considering doing one of these courses to improve their maths skills and confidence. I would say the multiply course is really good. Stop considering just come and do it.”
