About the course

The lead practitioner in adult care level 4 will guide, inspire and help you to support team members to make a positive differences to someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional, psychological or intellectual challenges.

Throughout the apprenticeship you’ll learn new knowledge, skills and behaviours to help you mentor and support others. There’s the opportunity to specialise in topics that will help you to lead in areas such as care needs assessment, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and enablement and assistive technology.

The apprenticeship is 18 months in total with a 15 month practical learning programme and then up to 3 months for the End Point Assessment. We deliver throughout the year meaning you can start the programme when you want and when it meets your needs, rather than wait for a particular time in the year.

Training is delivered both on-the-job and off-the-job. You’ll receive workplace teaching and observations as well as joining webinars, virtual one-to-one sessions, completing online learning and independent tasks

This course is cost-free to learners. All our programmes are regulated and funded through the government or the apprenticeship levy.

You don’t need to have a level 3 qualification to do this level 4 lead practitioner in adult care but you should be in a lead role or have responsibility for activities such as supervising, team meetings and appraisals.

The apprenticeship is suitable for:

  • Individuals working in a range of settings such as nursing homes, residential homes, support services, clinical healthcare, domiciliary care and day centres;
  • Those have two years’ sector experience
  • Individuals who have some level of management or supervising experience.

Throughout the programme we will meet with you to ensure you understand your programme, to report on your development and progress as well as making sure your programme requirements are being met.

What you’ll learn

You’ll develop a wide range of skills so that you’re able to successfully supervise, lead and support others to deliver quality care.

We’ll teach and support you to be a competent lead adult care Worker able to deliver the very best care and be an expert practitioner. To help fulfil your role, we’ll equip you with the expertise to provide supervision, frontline leadership, guidance and direction for others.

  • Playing an active role in developing personal care plans
  • If you don’t have level 1 English and maths we’ll help you to achieve this before reaching end point assessment and get you ready to take the test for level 2. Our team of highly skilled specialist English and maths tutors can provide additional support if needed.

How you’ll learn

Our sector expert staff will support you to achieve the apprenticeship. We have highly skilled and knowledgeable staff with significant experience of working in the industry who will be able to share their experiences and support you.

We deliver the programme throughout the year providing you with the flexibility to start the apprenticeship when it meets your needs. All learning is either on a 1-2-1 basis or small group webinars so you have the best experience possible with sector experts.

We have designed a flexible programme which includes:

  • Assessment and induction
  • Face-to-face sessions (or remote delivery)
  • Regular 1-2-1 support (face-to-face and/or remote)
  • Assignments
  • Observations
  • Ongoing mentoring, coaching and support (including information, advice and guidance)
  • Specialist English and/or maths support (if needed) You will also record and track your learning progress through your e-portfolio, helping to support and evidence your journey.
