Enhancing business operations and building HR capability
Name: Ffion May Burke
Apprenticeship: Level 3 HR Support Apprenticeship
Job Title: HR Coordinator
Employer: Welford Healthcare
Starting My Career in HR
I chose to complete the Level 3 HR Support Apprenticeship because I wanted to develop the skills and knowledge needed to effectively support a business and its employees. I was also keen to gain a recognised qualification in HR and grow my confidence in a professional environment. The apprenticeship provided the perfect opportunity to build a strong foundation while gaining practical, real-world experience.
Overcoming Challenges with Support
During the first five months of my apprenticeship, I faced an unexpected challenge when I was made redundant. This was a difficult and uncertain time, but the support I received from my trainer, Sam, made a huge difference. Their encouragement and guidance helped me stay focused and continue progressing with my apprenticeship.
This experience strengthened my resilience and determination, and I remained committed to achieving my qualification and pursuing a career in HR.
Achieving Career Progression and Confidence
Since completing the apprenticeship, I have successfully secured a full-time position as an HR Coordinator at Welford Healthcare, a large and growing organisation. The apprenticeship played a key role in helping me reach this milestone by equipping me with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to succeed in the workplace.
I now feel confident supporting wider teams, providing advice on HR matters, and taking on new challenges and responsibilities. The course also helped me develop strong organisational skills, enabling me to manage my workload effectively while adapting to a new role.
Making a Positive Impact in the Workplace
Having in-house HR knowledge has made a significant difference within the organisation. It has
> streamlined processes,
> reduced the need to outsource HR support,
> made it easier to manage procedures
> made it easier to respond to employee queries efficiently.
This has helped save time and improve overall efficiency within the business.
I have also been involved in key projects such as workplace expansion and pay analysis, applying the knowledge and skills gained during my apprenticeship to support business growth and development.
Advice to Others Considering an Apprenticeship
My advice to anyone considering an apprenticeship is simple: go for it. The opportunities available after completion are fantastic, and the apprenticeship provides a wide range of valuable skills, knowledge, and practical experience.
The workshops are particularly helpful in preparing for assessments and building confidence. Overall, the experience is incredibly rewarding and provides a strong foundation for a successful career.
Looking Ahead
Completing the Level 3 HR Support Apprenticeship has been a hugely positive and rewarding experience. It has enabled me to secure a full-time HR Coordinator role, develop professionally, and contribute meaningfully to my organisation.
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have done this apprenticeship and look forward to continuing to grow and progress in my HR career.
