🎯 Motivation: To build the skillset needed to progress into senior roles
💬 Key Takeaway: “The course has given me the confidence, structure, and understanding I need to lead my team effectively and drive improvements within the business.”

Building the Skills to Lead

As a Compliance Manager at Routes Healthcare, Clare plays a vital role in ensuring the business meets all regulatory standards. Her day-to-day work involves overseeing a team of Compliance Administrators responsible for onboarding new candidates, auditing files, and managing ongoing checks to ensure compliance across the organisation.

“I decided to complete a Level 5 qualification in Operational Management to develop my leadership and strategic management skills,” Clare explains. “I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of how organisations operate and build the knowledge I need to progress into more senior management roles as my career develops.”

For Clare, this apprenticeship was not just about professional development, it was about taking the next step in a career built on experience, adaptability, and a passion for growth.

From Retail to Recruitment

Clare’s career journey has been anything but linear and that’s exactly what’s given her such a strong foundation.

“Since leaving school, I’ve taken a career path that’s allowed me to build a wide range of skills and experience across different sectors,” she says. “I started out working in retail for seven years, which helped me develop strong customer service, communication, and organisational skills.”

After her time in retail, Clare moved into an administrative role with a Ministry of Defence contract, before progressing to a Senior Vehicle Administrator position for a car company. Each role strengthened her skill set and prepared her for the compliance and management responsibilities she now holds at Routes Healthcare.

Applying Learning in Real Time

One of the biggest benefits of the apprenticeship for Clare has been the immediate applicability of what she’s learning.

“What I’ve enjoyed most about the course is learning new things that I can apply to my role,” she says. “It’s helped me understand how to become better at what I do and given me the opportunity to improve my existing skills and knowledge.”

She’s particularly valued gaining a deeper understanding of management practices and how these can be used not only to develop herself, but also to support and grow her team.

Growing in Confidence

Completing the Level 5 Operations Manager Apprenticeship has given Clare more than just new skills - it’s given her confidence and clarity in her leadership approach.

“If I hadn’t completed this course, I don’t think I would have the same level of confidence or understanding in my role as a manager,” Clare reflects. “The course has helped me develop my leadership and decision-making skills, as well as given me a better understanding of how to manage people and processes effectively.”

“Without it, I’d probably still be doing my job well, but without the same structure, awareness, and confidence that I now have in leading my team and driving improvements within the business.”

Making a Lasting Impact

Since completing the course, Clare has seen real, tangible changes in her work.

“I’ve been able to put many of the skills I’ve learned into practice,” she explains. “I’m using the knowledge I gained around leadership and operational management to support and develop my team more effectively, as well as to improve processes within the compliance department.”

She’s also found herself more confident in identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing positive change - benefiting both her team and the wider organisation.

Support That Made a Difference

Balancing study with a demanding role hasn’t always been easy, but Clare says the support she received made a huge difference.

“The support I’ve received from my trainer has made a big difference. Her understanding, patience, and willingness to listen have really helped me feel supported throughout the course and less overwhelmed.”

Looking Ahead

Clare’s journey through the Level 5 Operations Manager Apprenticeship has not only strengthened her leadership and operational expertise but also positioned her for future success. With a renewed sense of confidence and capability, she’s ready to take her career to the next level.
